Our Hair Restoration Methods
Our hair technicians offer three effective techniques for hair restoration in Portland that can be chosen depending on the specific needs and preferences of the patient:
FUE Hair Transplant - The FUE (follicular unit excision) is a special method used for hair transplants. Although an FUE instrument can come in different forms, it is essentially a hollow metal tube with an opening at one end. When the tool is applied to the area of healthy hair, it fully encompasses the targeted follicle, allowing it to be safely extracted. It is then prepared and transplanted to another area.
FUT Hair Transplant - The FUT (follicular unit transplant) or strip hair transplant method is a more traditional hair restoration method that first gained popularity in the 1990s. During this treatment, the hair technician removes a strip of skin with healthy hair from an area of the scalp near the back of the head. This results in a thin scar on the scalp that is not visible unless the hair is shaved or kept very short. Next, this strip is examined under a high-powered microscope, allowing the technician to extract individual hair follicle units carefully. These hair grafts are then inserted into the bald or balding area of the scalp, similar to how FUE is done.
PRP Therapy - Another effective option for non-surgical hair restoration is PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy. PRP is plasma (the fluid that blood is made of with the red blood cells removed) containing a high concentration of platelets and growth factors. During PRP hair restoration, platelet-rich plasma is drawn from the patient’s blood and injected into the areas of the scalp affected by hair loss. This helps to increase the blood supply to the hair follicles and trigger the natural hair growth process.
