Eyelid Surgery in Marin County

Some of the earliest signs of aging appear in the skin around the eyes, and can appear in some people as early as their 30s. Having deep, sunken-in lines around the lower eyelids, sometimes called tear troughs, can give a tired appearance. In addition, in older patients, the skin of the lower eyelids can start to sag, creating bags under the eyes.

These are slightly different problems, that require different techniques and approaches to treat them. Dr. Vila is an expert on the most current techniques to improve the appearance of these issues. Reach out and set up your consultation, and learn more about how Dr. Vila can restore the appearance of your eyelids, for an overall boost to that youthful glow.

Is Eyelid Surgery Right for Me?

During your consultation, Dr. Vila will sit with you and get to know your unique physical characteristics, and the cosmetic goals that brought you through our doors in the first place. He’ll help you to decide whether or not blepharoplasty is actually the right choice for you, and you’ll explore all your options together.

You’re likely a great candidate for eyelid surgery with Dr. Vila if you’re dealing with any of the following issues:

  • Obstructed eyesight

Upper Eyelid Rejuvenation

For the upper eyelids, sometimes the skin can sag down over the eyes, covering up the skin where eyeshadow is applied, and can even block vision in severe cases. Addressing sagging in the upper eyelids is a quick procedure that involves very careful and conservative treatment, and should be done by an expert who is experienced in this procedure. Dr. Vila’s extensive experience and commitment to aesthetic results make him a great candidate for performing this procedure.

What’s the Blepharoplasty Procedure Like?

Dr. Vila performs various techniques for addressing aging around the eyes, and he’ll customize your technique based on a combination of your physical characteristics and your cosmetic goals.

Depending on the treatment area, the procedure can sometimes be done in the office under local anesthesia. More complex or combined procedures would be done in the operating room.

For lower eyelids, Dr. Vila performs both transconjunctival (hidden incisions) and transcutaneous (well-hidden external incision under the lash line) to address aging.

If incisions are made on the skin, then small stitches are placed and removed one week later. The entire procedure takes approximately 1 hour, and patients all go home afterwards.

What Will My Recovery Process Be Like?

Fortunately enough, the recovery period that follows eyelid surgery is relatively minimal, and not quite as extensive as it can be with some of the other surgical procedures we offer. You’ll experience the majority of your discomfort in the first day or two, but this will be quite easily controlled with pain medication.

If you wear contact lenses, you’ll need to keep them out for one week after surgery, during which time there will be some swelling and bruising. This will fully resolve within about 10 days. After this point, your full results should be visible and all swelling will likely have resolved. You’ll be able to enjoy your new look!

Dr. Vila’s Commitment to Aesthetics

Facial plastic surgery is about so much more than simply following a procedure. No two patients are the same: Each procedure involves a different set of goals, and involves working with a different set of physical characteristics. Taking all of this into account, Dr. Vila will design a custom treatment that addresses your specific goals.

You’ll work together to develop a roadmap to your aesthetic goals, answering just about every question you might have along the way, so you’re comfortable, prepared, and know that you’re in the most capable of hands.
